I have a physically demanding job that requires a lot of standing and lifting and I'm 56. I purchased this product to work on my hip flexors. I had discovered that this was the source of my acute pain (and not hip arthritis), so I was making slow progress stretching it out. I went on the web and discovered exercises that required a massage roller, so I ordered this one. After using it for three days, I've noticed dramatic results so that my pain is almost completely gone. I've only done two of the exercises. The first is to get into a push-up position and put the roller right where it hurt. Then I move my knee forward as if I'm going to move forward. Then I simply roll over the massage roller. It hurts, but I'm told that you have to do that to get results. The second "exercise" is simply to lay on my back and insert the roller at the small of my back. Then I just lay there and try to relax for a minute and feel the stretching of the hip flexors. I'm also using this product to massage the front of my shoulder and it gave me instant relief from the severe pain I had. (I still have some problems, but not severe. I think it is my rotator cuff or whatever is attached to it.) I'm going to start to work on the rest of my muscles as they are generally sore and tight. I should also add that I'm impressed with the quality of the product. I thought this would be a softer piece of foam which, in retrospect, would not have done the job. I have poor upper body strength but still found many easy exercises that alleviate my back and leg issues. There are tons of great guides online. I suggest securing loose clothing and long hair beforehand, and I'd also recommend starting slow and taking care not to overdo it. This is an extremely versatile and valuable tool when used in moderation, but going too long or hard, especially on a single area, can result in bruising. Once I began limiting sessions to 15 minutes, I had no further issues.My only complaint is the length. I'm a woman with a small frame, and this is the same size as my upper back from shoulder to shoulder. I struggle to stay perfectly straight while rolling my back, so I start falling off the side as soon as I become crooked. With a few extra inches of leeway, I wouldn't have to stop and reposition so often. That's just a matter of convenience though.
