### What is the acute-to-chronic workload ratio?
 It is the ratio of your recent training stress to your longer-term training base. Acute load is what you have done lately; chronic load is the platform you built to absorb it. The ratio matters more than either number alone, because the same hard week is routine for someone with months of consistent training behind it and a serious spike for someone returning after a layoff.

  
### What is a safe training load ratio?
 Between 0.8 and 1.3. Below 0.8 your recent work is light relative to your base and you have room to add. Between 1.3 and 1.5, treat recovery as a scheduled item rather than an afterthought — sleep, foam rolling, and food — and consider dropping one session. Above 1.5, do not add load until the ratio comes back under 1.3.

  
### What is RPE and how do I estimate it?
 Rate of Perceived Exertion is a one-to-ten scale for how hard a session felt. Five is moderate work you could sustain and talk through; seven is hard but repeatable; nine is close to everything you had. It is subjective by design, and that is a strength here — it captures fatigue, sleep debt, and stress that a weight on a bar does not. Estimate it honestly and it tracks your actual load well.

  
### Why does the calculator ask how many weeks I have trained consistently?
 Because chronic load is a base, and a base takes time to build. A short training history means you have less accumulated capacity, so the same weekly volume represents a bigger relative spike. This input scales the chronic figure accordingly, which is why returning from a long break produces a higher ratio than the same week would have before the break.

  
### How does foam rolling fit into managing training load?
 It does not lower your ratio — only changing your training does that. What it does is make the caution band more survivable: rolling for 60 to 90 seconds per muscle group after hard sessions reduces the soreness that otherwise makes you skip the next one. When the ratio reads high, treat rolling as part of the deliberate recovery you are adding, not as a substitute for reducing load.
